Products

We offer a range of natural, sustainably-sourced products. Their purchase assists in rainforest protection by creating alternative, sustainable income for forest-adjacent communities of scant economic resources.

Ramón products

Ramón (Brosimun alicastrum), also known as maya nut, was a staple food of pre-columbian Mayans. A superfood, it is high in vitamins, amino acids, folic acids, and is gluten- and caffeine-free.

Our organic ramón is sustainably harvested from trees in the Maya Biosphere Reserve. Freshly fallen seeds are collected by hand during January, February and March. About forty per cent of the seeds are collected—the remainder are left for tree regeneration and for the wide variety of dependent wildlife such as birds and agoutis.

There are many food preparations utilizing ramón seeds. Seeds can be used fresh in salads, soups or hummus. They can be solar- or otherwise dried and ground for flours and additives; or dried, toasted and ground for beverages. Processes are varied according to end use and tastes.

Flour applications include light roast for gravies, bread flour additive, cakes, cookies, smoothies, granola, and similar; medium roast for beverages, ice cream, and additive in beer brewing to create ramón beer. Dark roast is most commonly used as coffee and tea substitute.

We offer fresh seeds, dry seeds and ground seeds — light, medium or dark roast. More on our ramón products can be found on our Instagram page @mayannut.superfood.

Allspice

Seeds of the allspice tree (Pimenta dioica) are collected by local communities in August and used as spice.

We are currently developing allspice tea made from the tree leaves. It has a flavor resembling mint and benefits digestion.
